During its "Made on YouTube" event, YouTube revealed that creators can now use AI to brainstorm video ideas directly in YouTube Studio. Additionally, the platform will soon allow AI-generated thumbnails and assist creators in quickly responding to comments with AI-powered suggestions.
After a testing phase in May, the AI brainstorming feature is now available to all creators. By inputting a prompt, creators can generate ideas on specific topics. Ebi Atawodi, YouTube Studio’s director of product management, explained to TechCrunch that the tool uses comments and trending topics to offer video ideas. For instance, creators might receive suggestions based on recurring viewer requests for follow-up content.
Atawodi described the process as being more streamlined: instead of a search box, creators are presented with a list of ten ideas to kick off their brainstorming.
By integrating AI into YouTube, Google aims to encourage creators to use its AI tools rather than turning to other platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
In the coming months, once creators have an outline, YouTube Studio will suggest AI-generated thumbnails for their videos. If the default options aren’t suitable, creators can request specific styles, such as “surreal and unexpected” or “minimalist.”
YouTube is also introducing AI-assisted comment replies, which aim to help creators engage with their audiences more efficiently. The feature suggests replies that match a creator’s tone, similar to Gmail’s suggested responses. For example, if a viewer leaves a positive comment, the platform might suggest, “Thank you so much!” Creators can then personalize the response further, such as adding emojis or punctuation.
Atawodi noted that responding to a large volume of comments can be time-consuming, and AI-assisted replies will make it easier for creators to engage with more viewers.
The AI-powered comment feature will begin testing in the coming weeks, while AI-generated thumbnails are expected to launch later this year.
